A Quick Hit

Cass Sozio, Staff Writer

We all know the facts; juuls are molesting insides of teens across the nation. There is no doubt that a significant number of teenagers in the United States is hooked on nicotine. Unfortunately, this epidemic reaches every high school throughout the nation; everyone is at risk no matter what. Take a minute and educate yourself.

For the ones who are aware of the harm that juuls bring, but continue to take bathroom
breaks for a sweet puff, here’s your wake up call. It’s understood why the juul has become a popular option. It was designed to target the youth, and many have walked straight into the trap. If you wouldn’t smoke a cigarette, then you might want to take another look at the flavored glycerol in your pod.

Making the effort to quit may not be what you want, but it surely doesn’t hurt to try. Even if you couldn’t care less about the effects, know that others are concerned. Some students who aren’t fiends feel uncomfortable upon entering the restroom. Having to walk past a crowd of suspicious looks when they’re just trying to use the bathroom can be an intimidating experience. Have some respect for others and the boundaries of school. If you really can’t go a school day without it, then that should indicate an ongoing problem.

Understand the consequences. Nothing valuable will transpire from a juul. The head high
you may feel is a result of the salt nicotine. According to a Buzzfeed news reporter Caroline Kee, salt nicotine is three times stronger than the nicotine in cigarettes. With every hit you take, you’re jeopardizing yourself more and more. Your brain activity is decreasing; meanwhile it’s still trying to develop. Nicotine is extremely addictive, especially as an adolescent. Believe it or not, your brain is being primed so things like cocaine and heroin are more rewarding. The juul has reversed years of progress in the pursuit of a nicotine-free youth.

Save your money and stop buying yourself popcorn lung. There is satisfaction elsewhere
away from drugs. If you’re interested in seeking information or any kind of help, there are plenty of sources available in school. Mrs. Hecht, our prevention services provider, would love to work with anyone who is willing to make a change.
