A Big Night for Wallkill: Homecoming Parade and Game

Alison Gerow, Staff Writer On Friday, October 6th, the varsity football team lost  to Goshen at the homecoming game. Despite the loss, however, Wallkill Pride was very apparent. The festivities began with a homecoming parade. The marchers were welcomed with overwhelming cheers as the community gathered to show their support. The parade began and excitement coursed through the crowd. Led by the Ostrander Elementary School, the parade kicked off at about 6:15. The students and student-athletes in the parade were ecstatic to be there, and you could tell by the look on their faces as they entered the field. The football players were the final group of the parade; as they walked out, the crowd roared with excitement. As an observer you could tell that they were really serious about the game and you couldn't blame them; it was one of the biggest games of the year. Spotlight on Electives: Mandarin Chinese

Brooke Lundgren, Editor For the third year running, Wallkill is offering a Mandarin I class as an elective to those who have successfully completed Spanish IV with a final grade of C (73) or higher. In this class, students learn a basic understanding of Mandarin Chinese by being introduced to the vocabulary, pronunciation, and typical conversation of the language. Interactive and technology-rich, this class allows the students to build confidence and further their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Through this class, students will also expand their knowledge and perception of the culture, history, and geography of China. Josh Gaston, a current student in the Mandarin Chinese program, considers this class to be helpful in keeping him stay focused and organized in school.
