Image
Shianne Henion, Staff Writer Diane Moore from Reality Check speaking to the SHAC/SADD kids about the Great American Smoke-Out  Here at Wallkill, there are well-known clubs and then there are those that aren't as publicized. In Club Spotlight, clubs will receive some well-deserved recognition, and hopefully some of you will find a club or two you are interested in joining!  To kick off this segment, here's some information about our health club, SHAC/SADD. SHAC/SADD-Student Health Advisory Committee/Students Against Destructive Decisions-is the health club here at Wallkill, and focuses on many aspects of wellness throughout the school year. When a person joins SADD (a shorter way of saying it), they can expect to improve their skills in fundraising, correct planning, communication, and knowledge of different health problems. Although this club does focus on health issues, a student doesn't have to want to make health a part of their career...

A Night of Music and Song at WSHS

Alison Gerow, Staff Writer On October 18th at 7 pm, the Wallkill Senior High School hosted their annual Pops Concert. This is a concert in which most of the music ensembles from the district come out and show their skills. This is the only concert in which groups from all of the schools in the district come out to play. The first performance was by the Elementary Honors Orchestra led by Ms. Edie Duncan. Their performance was quite funny. Both the honors band and orchestra were all dressed up in their Halloween costumes and during the honors orchestra performance of "Ninja", they followed some phrases with a swift kick (and of course, Ms. Duncan did too). They were then followed by the Elementary Honors Band led by Mrs. Rubenstein. The High School Madrigal Choir hit the stage next in the lineup, led by Mrs. Dawn Amthor. They sang two pieces. The Madrigal Choir opened their performance with a few bars of "Crazy Train" by Brenden Butler and Liam Butler. They had an ...

Welcome, Ms. Twomey

Bradyn Wood, Staff Writer This year, we have a new member of the English Department. Her name is Ms. Meghan Twomey. She teaches 9th and 10th grade English. She graduated from Saint Rose College and then worked in Monticello’s middle school. As a kid, she always thought about being a teacher. She has several teachers in her family, including her mom, which inspired her to become one. If she could be anything other than a teacher, Twomey claims she would like to try being an actress. She says “I’ve never even acted before, so that wouldn’t work out so well”. When asked what her favorite part about being a teacher is, she said “it’s different every day, it’s never the same,” but she says “the worst part about teaching is having to wake up so early in the morning." Like most of us, she is not a morning person. "Ms. Twomey"-Bradyn Wood In addition to her teaching duties, she is going to be the new JV Girls’ basketball coach! She has played basketbal...

Spirit Week 2017

Arianna Bartolone, Staff Writer "Spirit Week"-Sienna Bernier During the week of October 2nd, Wallkill Senior High School SGA (Student Government Association) hosted this year’s Spirit Week and Homecoming. At their meeting before Spirit Week, they decided to have each class come up with the theme for one day of that week. For Monday, the Freshman class decided it would be Pajama Day. Quite a few people dressed down for this occasion, breaking out their best onesie, their favorite pair of sweatpants, or even just a simple pair of cozy slippers. A count of each class's participation was recorded, and at the end of the week the winning class would be declared. By the end of Monday, the Freshman class was in the lead and the Sophomore class was trailing by one. On Tuesday, it was Neon Day, and this was the idea of the Senior class. Neon Day was the most participated in day of the week. From glow sticks, to bright clothes, and even some crazy socks, a lot of the studen...
